Ok, today there was a thunder and lightning and everyone was telling me loads of different things to keep safe. Things like stand under a tree, stand in the middle of the field, go inside, wear rubber...etc. What actually keeps you safe from it? And also explain the thing about lightning finding the quickest way to the ground, if it wants to do that wouldn't it go straight to the ground instead of going through the tree?

By the way if this all sounds stupid, this is only what I've been told...

Lightning will hit the point of lowest resistance for example, a metal rod has low resistance meaning it will let the electricity flow easily.

But in an open field and if there is just a tree, it will obviously hit the tree because it will have least resistance than the area around it.

Things that keep you safe is rubber for example, and just not going outside when thunder and lightning is occuring.

+Don't stand under a tree.
