Holo films are expensive. Can't we just use 35 mm films or x-ray films? hehehe

Resolution is the key. If the hologram you are making needs to have fringes recorded 3000 per mm and your film grain is too large, the fringes wont record.

If you purchase holographic film instead of holographic plates, you will save quite a bit of cash but you need to insure the film does not move during the exposure, so it will need to be clamped in between two pieces of glass.

I make my own DCG plates and not counting the cost of the glass the plates cost me about 10 cents each.

Does the required resolution change with wavelength? Will a long wavelength (like 1064nm from a YAG laser) permit the use of larger film grain?

Would a pulsed YAG or ruby laser work? If so, wouldn't a powerful pulsed laser make the 'movement' issue easier to deal with?
