yes, its expensive as hell, and requres to have dust visible in the air so the might will hit the dust and make a *picture*

Make one in real life? thats hard... using a computer to add one in? fairly easy if you know what your doing. Ive done it before using adobe after effects a few years ago. At that time there was a 30 day trial you could get to do it. all you have to do is take the hologram shot (using a green screen reduces a lot of work...) then cut out just the person you want to be a hologram, very easy with a green screen... very painful without. Then just apply a transparent blue layer over the top to get that blueish color they always are. Then finally import it into the clip you want the hologram to appear in and you can shrink and move and do whatever you want to the clip and then finally make the hologram itself transparent. Its very easy with a green screen, if you don't have one its very painful cutting out the person frame by frame...

Although people would like to do it, which is why it is in a fantasy like Star Wars, to view a hologram requires that a person look into light waves which have passed through the hologram - so it has to be between the light source and eye. The small holograms on paper, etc., reflect light from behind the viewer back through the hologram. It is possible to make a hologram that floats in mid-air before the hologram image with a powerful laser and a good arrangement, but you can't walk around the image, you have to look into the film. When you have a walk around image, you have to have a cylinder of hologram film all around it.
