You may be attributing your increased focus in the library to the wrong thing(s).

Bear in mind that not only is the lighting different, but you also do not have the distractions of home around you such as a television, computer, food, etc. Not to mention the social expectations of what is supposed to occur in a library. There could be many reasons that you feel you study more efficiently in the library.

Sounds like she's tryin' to get the library to evolve, and although she may well be right i like fluorescence much better too. In fact I remember there's a reason why, i just can't remember what it is right now. Probably means i need to study some more.
A fluorescent lamp or fluorescent tube is a gas-discharge lamp that uses electricity to excite mercury vapor. The excited mercury atoms produce short-wave ultraviolet light that then causes a phosphor to fluoresce, producing visible light. A fluorescent lamp converts electrical power into useful light more efficiently than an incandescent lamp. Lower energy cost typically offsets the higher initial cost of the lamp. The lamp fixture is more costly because it requires a ballast to regulate the current through the lamp.

Yes, they're blindingly bright and keep you awake and alert.
