Here's the wiki article - maybe you call kerosene paraffin or some other name in your country?

The kerosene lamp (widely known in Britain as a paraffin lamp) is any type of lighting device that uses kerosene (British "paraffin," as distinct from paraffin wax) as a fuel. There are two main types of kerosene lamp, which work in different ways, the "wick lamp" and the "pressure lamp."

Kerosene lanterns burn petroleum oil to provide indoor light when electricity is unavailable. Lanterns, sometimes called lamps, largely replaced candles as the main source of interior light when kerosene became an alternative to other kinds of combustible oil. People continue to use kerosene lanterns for camping, ambiance, or in case of emergency blackouts.

Kerosene lanterns are an old time light source that relies on a lit cloth wick that pulls kerosene up from a reservoir below.  Some people, like my wife and I, still use them today when the lights go out.  If you go to the Lehman's Hardware website you  can see what they look like.  There are multiple examples and some are very pretty.

It's a paraffin pressure lamp and it has nothing to do with the paranormal
